Last Week on My Scenic Byway: Jan 3-9

For about a month now I have been posting a regular weekly blog entry on Mondays that is a summary of the preceding week on the Byway. It is not necessarily a repeat of everything I posted, although some posts are referenced. It is a an attempt at a succinct capturing of what went on in my life - outside and inside. Scenes, events, thoughts, memories, obsessions, etc. from the previous week. For me it is a nice way to reflect and organize and process. A record. For you it might help you locate other blog entries that interest you.

OUTSIDE

Scenes: Inversion!! A Salt Lake City day with my old college roommate visiting from out of town, including brunch at Market Street Grill, a visit to a fabulous old book store and a tour of Brigham Young's house - my first touristy activity since I arrived here. Catching up after traveling for a week - straightening up the house, unpacking, repacking for next week's trip to DC, and lots and lots of work - blah.
Ingesting: The Kids Are All Right - I liked this film a lot mainly because I love all the main actors. Nine - it was just ok, although I love that Daniel Day Lewis. He is good in anything. Before Sunset. I like this movie. And its predecessor, Before Sunrise. Just different, simple, lovely. Avatar - showed it to my parents who had not seen it - it was a year since we saw it. Not as good on the home tv as the big screen. 127 Hours - I have been wanting to see this, but afraid because it is so intense. It was a very good movie. I adore James Franco. The Four Agreements by Don Miguel RuizDesert Solitaire by Edward Abbey. I just started this, but think I am going to love it. He writes about Utah and the desert. He wrote it in 1967. He was complaining about the land becoming too developed and ruined - and that was more than 40 years ago! It is kind of sad to read this book. Mexican food at the Red Iguana
Loving: Sleepy Head by Passion Pit. Edwarde Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros. The story about the homeless guy with the beautiful radio voice discovered panhandling in Ohio. Our new tv box that allows us to stream Netflix, Pandora, Hulu, etc. through our tv!!! An awesome invention. I want to ditch Comcast (I really do not like them).

INSIDE
Memories: Grad school at Cornell. Parties at Mount Holyoke. My life in DC.
IntriguesWhat's up this year for the Sundance Film Festival. I need to get tickets!! I found out that I went to grad school with Gabrielle Giffords - she was in my department at the same time, and my department was small, so how is it I can't remember her? Why is my memory so bad from that period of time?

Desires: To do my best to follow the Four Agreements noted above. To get into a serious exercise schedule when I get back from DC. To have fun in DC next week. Lululemon clothes.

  2. oh man Mark. This is so weird. How did you find me? Do you really want to know? I would be HAPPY to write you an email and explain everything. I have been thinking of writing a blog entry about why I want to leave Comcast forever, but maybe I will write you about it first.
